“I am honored to represent and inspire women that are in their 60’s!”
What did you think when you were asked about representing Natural Bikini Magazine as our “Sexy at Sixty” athlete?
I was very excited, yet nervous! It has always been a dream to be featured in a magazine! I am honored to represent and inspire women that are in their 60’s!
What enticed you to enter a Bikini Competition with the IPL?
I started competing when I was fifty three and did a couple of shows. I was bitten by the competition bug. A co-worker mentioned the IPL to me as a drug-tested organization and I was very interested. We both included it on our work shared Vision Board. She invited me to a “Smoothies and Blenderz” team orientation where I met you, my coach, and learned more about the IPL. I knew right then I was jumping on board.
The competition bug has bitten me as well. What is it about competing that you consider to be your favorite part?
Oh my gosh, there is so much of the process that I love. My favorite part is the day of the show! It’s hard to explain, so much is going on! There is something so special about walking on stage and feeling so beautiful with all the women showing our hard work. We are all so proud and confident!
I can’t agree with you more. I would do a show every weekend if I could. Did you have any challenges or obstacles along the way that you had to overcome?
When prepping for a show, I still have to live life. I had many events to attend where my plan demanded prepped meals. One included a five day work event out of state. I was staying in a hotel with no type of kitchenette. I did take my Herbalife protein, and don’t laugh, an electric frying pan. This made my suitcase over the weight limit and I had to move stuff to my boss’ suitcase. That was so embarrassing! -laughs- Anyway, I did contact the coordinator of the conference and told them I am on a special diet and they totally accommodated the meals to exactly what was on my meal plan. So, don’t be afraid to ask for accommodations.
Other obstacles and challenges have been my mindset. Doubting myself that age was a problem. Well, anyone can enter a show and compete. But when you are surrounded by the right people they can help keep you positive!
I remember asking you what your goals with the shows included. You said you wanted to get your Pro Card at sixty! I told you then that is what you should do! It was POSSIBLE. With a positive mindset, dedication, hard work and belief you will.
Yes, at sixty, I still have a goal to win my Pro Card. I remember you assuring me it was POSSIBLE, and you encouraged me to continue. I trusted you, and believed what you said! These shows also help me to be and stay in the best shape of my life. I believe mindset is most important! I have learned not to listen to others that are negative. This is my vision and nobody can take that from me. My husband Ben, family and friends support me 100% and I love that!
Well, you are one strong and absolutely stunning woman. I have loved getting to know you. I appreciate your trust in allowing me to guide you through this journey and it sounds like you are going Pro! Will you be competing in Bikini and Evening Gown again? When should we expect to see you on stage again?
I am training for my next show in May to compete in Figure. I will also compete in Evening Gown. I am so excited! I will be on stage May 25th in Phoenix, AZ.
